Anti-ICE
I am anti-ICE. Mayor Wu is right that we are less safe as a city when we have to watch out for ICE raids. ICE was created in the aftermath of 9/11 and is no longer serving the American people. ICE is being used as Trump’s personal army and puts all of us at risk. When a person’s rights are stripped away because of the way they look, dress, or speak, none of us are safe.
We must reinstate a fair and due process for all people living in this country: whether citizen, denizen or visitor, everyone deserves to be treated with respect and decency. I will fight to eliminate ICE and to reduce the funding of the Department of Homeland Security (another relic of post-9/11). While evaluating these courses of action, I will ensure that all ICE agents are equipped with body cameras. I will work to ensure complete congressional oversight over detention facilities and ensure everyone is protected by the full power of the American Judicial system.
Pathways for Citizenship
I will fight for pathways to citizenship for legal and illegal immigrants and restore the protections and refugee statuses we had prior to the Trump administration. We must take active steps to bring back a culture of immigration and acceptance. I will fight to restore visas for hard workers. We must restore the sense of community that goes beyond political affiliation, residential neighborhood, city, or state. We must embody what made America what it is today: that you can be American no matter where you are born.
National Security
I may be anti-ICE, but I also support strong border security. Border security won’t be solved by better walls. It will be solved by better policy and stronger economic solutions. America plays an important role in maintaining Democracy around the world. We are safer when there are fewer terrorist and authoritarian regimes. We have a role in protecting Israel and Ukraine.
I support a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine and the removal of Hamas from Power. We need to do what we can to ensure democracies abroad are protected from blatant disregard for human lives and imperialistic desires.
